Get rid of 95.5% of my stuff
The Big Declutter Begins
If you've read my Materialist to Minimalist post you know the situation, if you haven’t already, please check it out. I explain how I got to this point in my life where I wanted to get rid of everything I owned. Working my way though 27 year worth of stuff which also coincided with the fact I was finally leaving home for the first time as well, so the declutter had to happen.
I was so overwhelmed with the chaos I had created for myself (there was a few tears at the start) but I got stuck in! I didn’t have a plan, I just wanted everything gone. So I started packing up 27 years worth of stuff that I had saved, collected and hoarded, it was a task and I couldn’t believe the amount of stuff I had. I found things I forgot I even bought as well as brand new items still with tags on and stuff even in its packaging. I dread to think how much money I must have wasted over the year.
As I was decluttering stuff, cause that’s all it was was “stuff” i realised how meaning less it all was, it meant nothings to me all this stuff. I didn’t need full sets of everything or that top I’d never worn in the last 5 years or every dvd in the world to feel happiness, I just felt stressed. Which then I realised how much all this stuff was impacting me, i was a mess. I just didn’t want it anymore and once I got my head around that, things changed. I took on the mindset of carrying every item that I owned physically, which is a lot of weight to carry with you everyday (unless your the ultimate minimalist) i realised I had changed my mindset which I never thought I would.
Discovering the minimalist has changed my life in more way then I thought it every would. Adapting to this way of living I noticed a change in myself and started to question everything that I bring in my life. I started to feel lighter, the weight on my shoulder was going and I love it. But changing these habits was tough, so putting in the effort showed the benefits it had on not only my mental health but my bank balance too.
Next week I’m going to share a guide I set for myself and share the habits I’ve created for myself and day to day life. I,m going to make this into a 3 part post as I feel I’ve gone on enough and still have more to say about the habits I’ve created for myself in my day to day life.
